Natalie's "Beatrix" Skirt

My goodness, I started this skirt November 30th, but finally it’s wearable. Am quite happy with it…the drape is lovely and oooh, it’s fun to wear. It’s made of a pretty worsted wool plaid in a soft green with red and yellow accents and blue undertones. I chose the trained version, and also opted

Alicia's Regency Play Costumes

My daughter got on a designing tangent, and drew designs for costumes and room settings for a number of fantasy parties (fantasy, as in, one can only fantasize about being able to afford one!). When she showed me the drawings, I pointed at ‘Autumn’ (shown above). And said ‘You know, we could make that with the Sensibility Regency pattern, and just leave off the sleeves.’ And so we did

Anna's Silk Swing Dress

This is a lovely pattern! I made it once before without taking the designer’s excellent advice and shortening the bodice to the right length. Doing it right this time around made a big difference–look at the fit of that bodice! I inadvertently installed a too-short zipper in the side seam which makes the dress very

Anna's Romantic Era Dress

The girls and I have been happily engrossed in the 1999 BBC miniseries ‘Wives and Daughters,’ which we have never seen before. Daisy above everyone is obsessed with Molly, Roger, and Cynthia, and is full of questions. Why does Cynthia wear two buns AND a ponytail? Why is Molly good? Is it because she

Lydia's Regency Dress

I made this dress for my 2 yo daughter using your Girl’s Regency pattern. I added homemade piping at the neckline and waist, as well as making the skirt lining a little longer than the skirt and turned it right-side out. Lydia (my daughter) and I are very pleased with the results, and I

Regency Graduation Dress

This is me in the gown my Gramma and I made this March. We used cream colored eyelet, with darkish pink for the lining. It was fun and simple to put together! These pictures are from my eighth grade “graduation” ceremony. A couple of girls came up to me after the ceremony and told

Regency Theater Costumes

These are photos from a wonderful production of ‘Northanger Abbey’ at the Pear Avenue Theatre in Mountain View, CA. The Pear is a tiny theater. The play was done with very few props and very little furniture. All the ladies’ gowns are variations on either the Simplicity pattern or the Elegant Lady’s Closet pattern.

Cynthia's Regency Ballgown

Dear Jennie, Thank you for the kind feedback. I enjoyed making the gown. If you ever run into anyone who needs a gown and wants to travel to Santa Barbara, I’d might be happy to ‘knock a gown out’ for them! I was a tailor/seamtress in college, and though now a dentist, I still

Christine's Catherine Moreland Ensemble

I just completed a regency ensemble for Bell Armoire magazine's 'Becoming Jane.' I used several of Jennie's patterns along with the Janet Arnold book [Ed. note: the open robe comes from the gridded pattern in Janet Arnold's Patterns of Fashion I]. I was creating an outfit for Catherine Morland, of Northanger Abbey, for a call-for-entries in Belle Armoire magazine.

Olivia's Regency Dress & Spencer

I am sending you pictures of Olivia in her new Regency outfit. I made the dress from a Swiss dot cotton, but it’s not a fine Swiss. The bodiced petticoat is made from cotton batiste and the Spencer is made from a lovely cotton velvet, navy in colour. It was fun dressing her up in this outfit.
